HISTORY - DR. PHILLIPS

A little history. Dr. Phillip Phillips, a medical doctor turned horticulturist, and his wife Della, grew their citrus empire in the late 1880s, and established a Post Office and a shopping area for their grove workers. Thus you could say that the Dr. Phillips area was born. Ironically, Bay Hill, the first established subdivision in the area, was built on a patch of the area's rare infertile groveland! It first became a golf course community in the 1960s by two developers from the Midwest. In 1970, as Disney was opening, the late, great Arnold Palmer bought the Golf Course and evolved the area into the Championship tour stop it still enjoys today.

The philanthropy of Dr. & Mrs. Phillips, and Arnold & Winnie Palmer continues to richly enhance the Dr. Phillips and Orlando areas today. You will see their names attached to hospitals, Cultural buildings, parks, streets, etc. With powerfully run foundations, there's no sign of stopping. We owe a lot to these two late greats and their spouses.
